About Dennis

Dennis Gurwell is a product of the Bakersfield, CA area. He has been playing in various types of bands since the mid-60's. He moved to the Los Angeles area in the late 1960's and has been there ever since. He has played in a variety of Rock, Country, Celtic and Zydeco bands during that time.

On these recordings, Dennis plays Keyboards, Accordion, Guitar, and Bass, in addition to Vocals. He was ably assisted in these recordings by guitarists Lazy Brad Lewis, Gregg Wright, Ron dePalma, drummers Andre Allen and Chris Ross, trumpet player Doug Gurwell, clarinetist Phil Feathers, trombonist Mike Dageaux, and pedal steel guitar player Bob "Boo" Bernstein.

Dennis presently plays keyboards and accordion blues artist Lightnin' Willie, winner of this years Venura County Blues Society's 2013 Blues Challenge.  The band will travel to Memphis, TN in January 2014 to represent Ventura County in the annual International Blues Challenge.  Dennis has also played with the Bonne Musique Zydeco band and the Martinez del Rio Band, and is also playing keyboards and accordion with Pete Anderson, former producer and guitarist with Dwight Yoakam,  Rosie Flores, Roy Orbison, and K.D. Lang. He has also played recently on a CD with Austin, Texas-based singer/songwriter Billy Eli.
